The Vicar's Report to the AGM 18 April 2010
The Vicar’s Report to the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (AGM)
18 April 2010
Introduction
Today’s reading from the Book of Acts tells us of Paul’s conversion which history shows was a turning point in the life of the young Church. Is today a turning point for St Mary’s?
Last year my report looked at a vision for the St Mary’s family and on re-reading it 12 months later I see that once again God has been faithful in His guidance, provision and blessing. As the writer to the Hebrews states our God does indeed sustain us as we honour the Son.
Hebrews 1: 3 & 4
The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honour at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names. (NLT)
We must therefore never lose sight of God and what He has achieved for us in Jesus’ name and what He will continue to do as we remain faithful to direction of His Spirit.
The PCC secretary has focused on the past year so my focus now will be on the future - looking ahead some 18 months.
Outreach Ministry
I see ‘Jesus-Ministry’ continuing to be our main evangelism, spiritual outreach and personal growth focus, with the possible addition of an Alpha Course at some stage.
All Saints’ Hall
Judy, David and their workers and helpers have done an amazing job of the renovation which truly honours God and the community.
The Church building
Our church building continues to be a source of frustration with a stop/go/stop relationship with the Diocesan Advisory Council. The Fabric report contains all the details of this on-going saga. To her credit our Archdeacon has been very sympathetic and helpful.
Conclusion
St Mary’s is securely in God’s hands and we need to remain faithful in prayer and mission to cope with the challenges that lie ahead thereby guaranteeing a vibrant and real witness to Christ in this village and beyond.
